A Guide To Liverpool: Host of the Clipper Race 2017

With just a matter of days until racers set sail from Liverpool, it’s time to plan your weekend in this amazing city that is steeped in history and stuffed to the rafters with music, culture and shops. Over a decade has passed since Liverpool last hosted the race and what better place to kick-start this immense challenge than on the stunning Albert Dock. Whether you’re spectating or participating, here are our tips on how to make the most your time in The Pool.

Getting there

Save your orienteering skills for navigating the waters and use our guide to get you around the city.

By Car – From the M6 take the M62, M58 or M56. There are various paid parking options in and around Albert Dock. There is a pay and display car park on the Britannia side of the dock, Liverpool Waterfront Car Park adjacent to the Echo Arena and Liverpool One Q Park also in close proximity.

On Foot – Albert Dock is a 20 minute walk from Lime Street, Liverpool’s mainline station, through Liverpool ONE. You can also reach it on foot from either the Museum of Liverpool and Cruise Liner terminal or ACC Liverpool.

By Train – Both TransPennine Express and Northern Rail offer trains to and from Liverpool starting from £3. Take the Merseyrail Line from Liverpool Lime Street Lower Level to James Street Station, which is a five-minute walk from the Dock.

By bus – The C4, C5 and City Link services stop at Albert Dock and the Liverpool ONE bus station is opposite. The National Express coach station at Liverpool ONE is just a two minute walk away. Visit the National Express website to book.

Places to Visit

Clipper Race Village – Serving up daily live entertainment and free open boat tours, as well as the partner brands including our Henri Lloyd pop up shop where you can browse and buy innovative marine kit. The atmosphere will be buzzing with all things Clipper going off, don’t miss out!

Museum of Liverpool- Nestled in amongst the waterfront action, a trip to the museum will fill you in on all things Liverpool from football to The Beatles to The Titanic.

The Beatles Story – Come together and listen to how The Beatles influenced and changed music forever. Located in the Albert Dock, right on the Clipper doorstep, pay it a visit and enjoy the sound of the fab four.

Refuelling

Dine in Miller & Carter for a steak to remember, or for the finest Italian cuisine, give Gusto a go! Both of these top restaurants overlook the Albert Dock so you can enjoy a buzzing atmosphere with a clear view of the event. The Docklands Fish and Chips is the place for a relaxed lunch. Make sure to leave room for ice cream!
